Sustainably and Employment Law
Small Steps, Big Impact: Navigating Conflict and Embracing Sustainability

We have always believed that a successful business shouldn’t just focus on the bottom line, it should actively contribute to a better, healthier community and planet.
In today’s digital age, reducing our footprint isn’t an uphill battle. Operating a paperless office and conducting our mediations remotely is incredibly straightforward, so we felt the pull to go one step further. True sustainability means giving back more than we take. That is why we are proud to tie our core mission resolving workplace conflict directly to environmental restoration.
Every single time we successfully resolve an employment case, we donate a native tree to Trees That Count to be planted right here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
🤝 Resolution in Action: Avoided Hearings and Immediate Certainty
A perfect example of this philosophy in action happened just this past week. We successfully resolved a redundancy case that was fast heading toward a formal, stressful hearing at the Employment Relations Authority (ERA).
As anyone familiar with employment law knows, taking a case all the way to a public tribunal is an exhausting road. Litigation is inherently high risk, expensive, and emotionally draining for both the employer and the employee. By negotiating a settlement we avoided:
Stress: Neither party had to endure the anxiety of a formal public hearing.
Time & Costs: The heavy financial burden of ongoing litigation was cut short.
Gained Certainty: Instead of waiting on a gamble, both sides secured immediate closure and a clear path forward.
By choosing resolution over conflict, our clients didn't just save their own resources they directly funded the growth of New Zealand’s native canopy.

🌳 Who is 'Trees That Count'?
If you haven’t heard of Trees That Count (Te Rahi o Tāne), they are a Kiwi environmental non-profit dedicated to native forest restoration across the motu.
They act as a transparent native tree marketplace, connecting funders with passionate community groups, iwi, and landowners who are doing the hard work of planting on the ground. Every native tree funded helps combat climate change, filters waterways, restores natural biodiversity, and creates beautiful habitats for native wildlife. It’s an impactful partnership that ensures our business growth directly translates into a tangible, lasting environmental legacy.
Recognised: The Selwyn Business Awards
Our commitment to these practices isn't just something we talk about, it's woven into the fabric of who we are. We were incredibly honoured to be recognised at the Selwyn Responsible Business Awards.
Run by the Selwyn District Council, these local awards celebrate hard work, innovation, and outstanding community or environmental dedication within the region. Being acknowledged in the responsible business category validates our approach: that even in a professional services industry like employment law, you can and should prioritise sustainable, environmentally friendly operations.
